Virtualmin- Auto Installation! Rumi, September 21, 2008September 21, 2008 Howdy all, As I’ve been threatening for a few weeks now, the Virtualmin Professional automated install script and software repositories is now available for Virtualmin GPL! What does this mean for you? If you’re a Virtualmin Professional user, nothing! You’ve already been enjoying the ease of installation and configuration provided by our install script, and software repositories. If you’re a Virtualmin GPL user, you know that getting everything installed and configure just so can be challenging and time-consuming. The new installer makes it a quick and painless process, on a freshly installed supported OS. The supported OS list is short, at this time, but will grow in the coming weeks. If you’re not a Virtualmin GPL user, it’s probably because the installation process is so complicated…and now that problem has gone away! The current version is designed to run flawlessly on CentOS 5 and Debian 4.0 on both i386 and x86_64 architectures. Virtualmin GPL users now have access to our library of all of the software needed to get the most out of a Virtualmin virtual hosting system: Apache rebuilt with suexec docroot set to /home, PHP 4 and PHP 5 in mutually compatible packages, Webmin, Usermin, and all supporting modules, etc. All in an OS-standard yum or apt repository. Users of other Red Hat or Debian based distributions may still want to take advantage of these new packages and repositories, as it makes staying on top of Webmin and module updates easy. To get started, download the install script from http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/install.sh, and then follow the instructions found in http://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/id,virtualmin_administrators_guide/ or, if you’re already a Linux and Webmin expert, http://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/id,virtualmin_installation_quickstart/ Once installed, all updates are handled within the Virtualmin Package Updates module. Also, upgrades to Virtualmin Professional can now be handled easily within Virtualmin–no complicated re-installation, just tell Virtualmin your serial number and license key, and it does the rest! As always, users of Virtualmin GPL are welcome to take advantage of our bug tracker for reporting bugs. Please visit the forums for support queries–support tickets in the issue tracker are reserved for our Virtualmin Professional customers. Be sure to tell your favorite hosting provider that the world’s most powerful free virtual hosting control panel is now easy to install. They may not realize that Virtualmin GPL is almost as easy to setup as Webmin alone, and provides more capabilities than even the best of our proprietary competitors (and the Professional version, of course, goes beyond that).
