India out of Asia Cup

MIRPUR: India were knocked out of the Asia Cup after minnows Bangladesh continued their giant-killing act by upsetting Sri Lanka by five wickets in the last league match.

Chasing a revised target of 212 after a rain interruption, the spirited hosts held their nerve to make their maiden entry into the summit showdown of the tournament where they will meet Pakistan on Thursday.

Nasir Hossain (36 not out) hit the winning boundary straight down the ground as the home crowd at the jam-packed Shere Bangla National Stadium went into a state of frenzy.

Tamim Iqbal (59 off 57 balls; 9×4), Shakib Al Hasan (56 off 46; 7×4), Hossain (36 off 61; 3×4) and Mahmadullah (32 not out off 33; 3×4) were the notable batting heroes for Bangladesh who recorded their second consecutive upset wins after having beaten India last Friday.

Put into bat, Sri Lanka were all out for 232 in 49.5 overs with Chamara Kupugedegera (62 off 92; 4×4), Lahiru Thirimanne (48 off 73) and Upul Tharanga (48 off 44) making significant contributions.

But the target was reduced to 212 in 40 overs after a heavy downpour during the innings break, which lasted for a little more than an hour.

India needed a Sri Lankan victory to qualify for the final but now will have to pack their bags and return home.

They had to pay the price for the shock defeat against Bangladesh.

Prior to Tuesday's match, Bangladesh were on four points and India on eight. But the hosts' win shut the door on India as they had defeated the Men in Blue earlier in the meet.

As per the rules of the tournament, if two teams are tied on points, head-to-head record is considered.

১৬৪৪ সালের ৩১ মার্চ এসেক্সে জন্ম নেয়া হেনরি উইনস্টেনলি ছিলেন বিখ্যাত ইংরেজ ইঞ্জিনিয়ার। যিনি প্রথম এডিস্টোন বাতিঘর নির্মাণ করেন। নিজের তৈরি এই বাতিঘর নিয়ে ভদ্রলোক খুব আত্মবিশ্বাসী ছিলেন এবং প্রচণ্ড ঝড়েও এই বাতিঘর ধ্বংস হবে না বলে অহঙ্কার করতেন। ১৭০৩ সালের ২৭ নভেম্বর, দিনটি ছিল মেঘলা। বড়সড় একটি ঝড় সাগর থেকে ধেয়ে আসছে দেখে হেনরি সবাইকে বললেন, তিনি তার নির্মিত বাতিঘরে সে রাত থাকবেন এবং প্রমাণ করে দেবেন, এই ঝড় তার বাতিঘরের কোনো ক্ষতি করতে সক্ষম নয়। সে রাতে হেনরি তার ৫ সহকারীকে নিয়ে বাতিঘরে থাকার সময় প্রচণ্ড ঝড়ে বাতিঘরটি সম্পূর্ণ ধ্বংস হয়ে যায় এবং সবাই মৃত্যুবরণ করে।

১৮৭৩ সালের ২২ আগস্ট পোল্যান্ডে জন্ম নেন বিখ্যাত রাশিয়ান চিকিত্সক, দার্শনিক ও কল্পবিজ্ঞান লেখক আলেকজান্ডার বগডেনভ। ১৯২৪ সালের দিকে তিনি বিশ্বাস করতে লাগলেন অল্পবয়স্ক কারও দেহ থেকে রক্ত গ্রহণের মাধ্যমে রক্ত গ্রহীতা দীর্ঘায়ু লাভ করতে পারেন। তিনি এ বিষয়ে পরীক্ষা করতে আগ্রহী হয়ে ওঠেন। তার এই পরীক্ষায় স্বেচ্ছাসেবক হিসেবে অনেক বিখ্যাত লোকও অংশ নেন। এমনকি লেনিনের বোনও। এই করতে গিয়ে ঘটনাচক্রে তিনি একসময় যক্ষ্মা ও ম্যালেরিয়ার জীবাণুবাহী এক ছাত্রের রক্ত তার শরীরে প্রবেশ করান।

এরপর জীবাণুতে আক্রান্ত হয়ে তিনি খুব দ্রুত মৃত্যুবরণ করেন। যদিও তার বেশ কয়েকজন সহকারী মন্তব্য করেছিলেন, ওই পরীক্ষায় তিনি অনেকটা সফলতার দিকে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন।

অবৈধ ভিওআইপি নিয়ে পূর্ণাঙ্গ তদন্ত হয়নি

তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি বিশেষজ্ঞ না থানায় পূর্ণাঙ্গ তদন্ত প্রতিবেদন তৈরি করতে পারেনি ভিওআইপির অবৈধ ব্যবসা নিয়ন্ত্রণে করণীয় নির্ধারণের একটি তদন্ত কমিটি। টেলিযোগাযোগ মন্ত্রণালয় এবং টেলিযোগাযোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণ কমিশনের (বিটিআরসি) সমন্বয়ে গঠিত ওই কমিটি অবৈধ কল টার্মিনেশন নিয়ন্ত্রণে ত্রিপক্ষীয় টাস্কফোর্স গঠনের সুপারিশ করেছে। কমিটি বলছে_ বিটিআরসি, মন্ত্রণালয় এবং আইন-শৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীকে নিয়ে এ টাস্কফোর্স গঠন করা যেতে পারে। সামগ্রিকভাবে নজরদারি না করায় দেশে ভিওআইপির অবৈধ ব্যবসা বেড়েছে বলেও প্রতিবেদনে দাবি করা হয়েছে।
অবৈধ কল টার্মিনেশন বা ভিওআইপি নিয়ে নভেম্বরের শেষ সপ্তাহে সমকালে অনুসন্ধানী প্রতিবেদন প্রকাশের পর সরকার এ সংক্রান্ত একটি তদন্ত কমিটি করে। বিটিআরসি এবং মন্ত্রণালয়ের ছয় প্রতিনিধিকে দিয়ে গঠিত কমিটি গতকাল বুধবার মন্ত্রণালয়ে প্রতিবেদন জমা দিয়েছে। আড়াই মাসে কমিটি মূলত দুই রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত কোম্পানি বিটিসিএল এবং টেলিটককে
নিয়েই বেশি কাজ করে।
কমিটির বেশ কয়েকজন সদস্য জানিয়েছেন, কাজ করতে গিয়ে প্রযুক্তিকেই তাদের জন্য বড় প্রতিবন্ধকতা মনে হয়েছে। তারা অভিযোগ করেন, তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি সংশ্লিষ্ট বিশেষজ্ঞদের কমিটিতে কো-অপট করার বিষয়ে মন্ত্রণালয়ের অনুমোদন চেয়েও পাওয়া যায়নি। গত ৩ জানুয়ারি এ বিষয়ে কমিটি ৫ জন প্রতিনিধি চেয়ে মন্ত্রণালয়ে চিঠি লেখে। এ অবস্থায় বেশিদূর এগোনো যায়নি। প্রতিবেদনেও বিষয়টি উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে। কমিটির এক সদস্য সমকালকে বলেন, তাড়াতাড়ি প্রতিবেদন দিতেও চাপ ছিল। ফলে কোনো উপসংহারেও আসা যায়নি।
সমকালের হাতে থাকা প্রতিবেদনে সব মিলে ১৩টি সুপারিশ পাওয়া গেছে। সুপারিশে টাস্কফোর্স গঠন ছাড়াও বিটিআরসি প্রদত্ত নির্দেশনাগুলো সব অপারেটরের জন্য মান্য করা বাধ্যতামূলক করতে বলা হয়েছে। তাছাড়া প্রতিবেদনের সীমাবদ্ধতা অংশে বলা হয়েছে, রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত কোম্পানি বিটিসিএল এবং টেলিটকের কাছ থেকে যথেষ্ট সহযোগিতা পাননি তারা। তাছাড়া টেলিটক এবং বিটিসিএলের কাছে বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে লিখিতভাবে জানতে চাইলেও তারা তা জানায়নি।

বিটিসিএল ও টেলিটকে আন্তর্জাতিক কল পরিচালনার ক্ষেত্রে অনিয়ম ধরা পড়েছে

রাষ্ট্রিয় মালিকাধীন টেলিকম প্রতিষ্ঠান বাংলাদেশ টেলিযোগাযোগ কোম্পানি লিমিটেড ও টেলিটক-এ আন্তর্জাতিক কল পরিচালনার ক্ষেত্রে অনিয়ম পেয়েছে সরকারী তদন্ত কমিটি। ধারণা করা হয়েছে এর ফলে বাংলাদেশ প্রচুর পরিমাণে রাজস্ব হারিয়েছে।

তদন্ত কমিটি তাদের তদন্তে প্রাপ্ত তথ্যাদি টেলিযোগাযোগ মন্ত্রণালয়ে জমা দিয়েছেন। তদন্তে প্রতিবেদনে কমিটি জানিয়েছে, তারা তদন্তে যথাযথ সহযোগিতা পেতে ব্যর্থ হয়েছে।

অবৈধ ভয়েস ওভার ইন্টারনেট (ভিওআইপি)-এর সাথে জড়িত থাকার ব্যাপারে তদন্ত পরিচালনার লক্ষ্যে ছয় সদস্য বিশিষ্ট এই কমিটিটি আড়াই মাস আগে গঠন করা হয়।

প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, প্রাইভেট ইন্টারন্যাশনাল গেটওয়ে এবং ইন্টারকানেকশন এক্সচেঞ্জগুলো সাধারণত কল ডাটা রেকর্ড-এর জন্য অ্যানালাইজার (বিশ্লেষক) ব্যবহার করে থাকে। ফলে, কোন কোন নম্বর থেকে ফোন কল হচ্ছে এবং কলের স্থায়ীত্বকাল কতক্ষণ তার বিস্তারিত বিবরণ তাদের কাছে থাকে।

কিন্তু বিটিসিএল-এর কাছে এ ধরণের কোন অ্যানালাইজার না থাকায় আন্তর্জাতিক কলগুলোর স্থায়ীত্বকাল সম্পর্কে কোন ধারণাই তাদের নেই।

প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী এই অ্যানালাইজার না থাকার কারনেই রাজস্ব ফাঁকি দেয়া সহ অন্যান্য অনিয়মের ঘটনা ঘটছে সরকারী এই দুই প্রতিষ্ঠানে। তাদের মতে বিটিসিএল-এর সাথে ইন্টারকানেকশন এক্সচেঞ্জগুলোর সাথে কোন ধরণের বিলের ব্যবস্থা না থাকায় কলের স্থায়িত্ব এবং বিলের পরিমাপ করতে পারছে না। ফলে, বিদেশ থেকে আসা কলের জন্য আয়টি সরকার না পেলেও, তার জন্য খরচের বিলটি ঠিকই মেটাতে হচ্ছে সরকারী প্রতিষ্ঠানকে। উদাহরন সরূপ, একটি কল যদি বিদেশ থেকে এসে সেটা গ্রামীনফোন বা বাংলালিংক নেটওয়ার্কে যায়, তাহলে মোবাইল ফোন কোম্পানীটি বিটিসিএলকে একটি বিল পাঠায়। সরকার সেই কোটি কোটি কলের বিল পরিশোধ করে যাচ্ছে। কিন্তু সেই কলগুলোর কোনও আয় পাচ্ছে না। তাতে দু'দিক দিয়ে ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ হচ্ছে সরকার।

প্রতিবেদনে এও জানানো হয়েছে যে, বিটিসিএল-এর এক্সচেঞ্জগুলো টেলিকম নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থা বিটিআরসির অ্যানালাইজারগুলোর সাথে সঠিকভাবে সংযুক্ত নয়।

Redesigning the Windows Logo

We have said that Windows 8 is a complete reimagination of the Windows operating system. Nothing has been left unexplored, including the Windows logo, to evaluate how it held up to modern PC sensibilities. The Windows logo is a strong and widely recognized mark but when we stepped back and analyzed it, we realized an evolution of our logo would better reflect our Metro style design principles and we also felt there was an opportunity to reconnect with some of the powerful characteristics of previous incarnations.

We had a very short list of agencies that we wanted to work with on the redesign of the logo and were thrilled when Pentagram agreed to join us in the project. Pentagram’s illustrious history speaks for itself, but we were particularly attracted to their sense of classic graphic design which fit well with our Metro design principles.

Early in the development cycle for Windows 8, in a conference room on the Microsoft campus, we assembled a kick off meeting with Paula Scher, Michael Beirut and Daniel Weil from Pentagram and a few designers and marketing leaders from Windows and across the company. The team spent a full day sharing some of the Metro style design philosophy; the Windows brand history and values as well as graphic design and technology industry trends.

Install Tomcat 6 in Debian
