Microsoft Address: Bangladesh

Woo! It was too time consuming to get their Dhaka Office location. But finally google did find that out from a thrid party site instead of Microsoft!!!! Now you see why google is getting bigger than micros? Frustrating isn’t it- they just can’t manage to express their location in right order.

Anyway, we need them to live and here goes their address-

The MRTG 2.16.2 Windows Installation Guide

SYNOPSIS

Installing MRTG on a Windows box is not quite as “click and point” as some might want it to be. But then again, it is not all that difficult if you follow the instructions below.

My setup was MRTG 2.16.2 Perl 5.8.8.819

PREREQUISITES

To get MRTG to work on Windows you need the following:

  • A current copy of Perl. For Example ActivePerl 5.8.8 from ActiveState http://www.activestate.com/store/activeperl/download/
  • The latest version of MRTG from http://oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/pub. Look for mrtg-2.16.2.zip or better. The archive also contains a precompiled copy of rateup.exe for Win32.

Setting up Plesk for Working Behind a Firewall

If you are running Plesk behind a firewall, you might encounter certain problems with resolution of domain names served by Plesk: when a new domain name is created in Plesk, its zone file includes a resource record that associates the domain name with the IP address your Plesk server is on, i.e. an internal network address like 192.168.1.1. As the 192.168.x.x IP addresses are reserved by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) for use by private internets, this domain name will not be accessible to the Internet users. To work around this, you would have to associate this domain name with the IP address of the firewall machine in the domain’s zone file (Domains ->Domain name -> DNS).

How to Tar / Untar From the Command Line

A simple guide for those who are as helpless on the Linux command line. When managing websites, you’ll often need to compact, move and extract a large number of files, here’s how to do it on your Linux box.

Initial Steps
First SSH into your web server and move to the directory of the files you wish to tar up, since tarring an absolute path will save the folder structure as well which is bad (ie: /home/yoursite/public_html/backupthis/ will save the folders home -> yoursite -> public_html -> backupthis). You can get to the folder you need to by typing:

cd /path/to/your/stuff

Creating a Tar
Now that we’re at the directory we want to tar, or the sub-directory, you can do one of two commands depending on what you need.

If you want to save every file / folder in your current location into a file called backup.tar.

tar -cvf backup.tar *

If you want to save a tar named backup.tar with the folder “somefolder” and its contents.

tar -cvf backup.tar somefolder/

You can test/view your tars with the following command:

tar -tvf backup.tar

Extracting the Tar
When you need to extract that tar, the following command will be suffice:

tar -xvf backup.tar

And I love you so and I want you to know
That I’ll always be right here
And I love to sing sweet songs to you
Because you are so dear

How do I… Install and configure a DNS server in Windows Server 2008?

As many of you are probably aware, the Domain Name System (DNS) is now the name resolution system of choice in Windows. Without it, computers would have a very tough time communicating with each other. However, most Windows administrators still rely on the Windows Internet Name Service(WINS) for name resolution on local area networks and some have little or no experience with DNS. If you fall into this category, read on. We’ll explain how to install, configure, and troubleshoot a Windows Server 2008 DNS server.

12 WEBSITES THAT SLIDE AND SCROLL WITH JAVASCRIPT

There has been a new trend in standards based design over the last year. The effect seems to have originally appeared in flash websites some time before, but with the use of javascript and a few good libraries people have found out how to do it while still using semantic XHTML/CSS.

The effect is what I call, “The Slider.” Instead of normal navigation where you click on a link and it takes you to another page, or even dynamically loads content onto the existing page, The Slider scrolls you to a different portion of the same page automatically. Sometimes this is simply scrolling down the page to the next content block (in a slow manor rather than an instant jump). Other times people have it scroll to another portion of the page that is not in a vertical manor, maybe 4000 pixels to the right and 500 upwards. The effect being the feeling of traveling to a different portion of the page itself. Lastly some have content scroll with in the content, so rather than the whole page moving the content with in a content block my scroll in and out.

Remember The Name- Shakib Wisden Cricketer of the Year!

Bangladesh’s 22-year-old allrounder Shakib Al Hasan is TWC’s Test player of the year. Still relatively unknown around the world, he tells Rabeed Imam about his reluctant path into cricket

Who is Shakib Al Hasan? Ask most cricket followers around the world who the best player in the last 12 months has been and you are likely to hear the names of Graeme Smith, Mitchell Johnson, Gautam Gambhir or Andrew Strauss. Shakib’s is far less likely to get a mention. Yet he has taken 45 wickets at 23 with his left-arm spin, including five five-fors. Add to that 498 runs at 35.57 and he already has the kind of allrounder figures that Andrew Flintoff could only have dreamed of – not bad for a 22-year-old.

Yet it almost was not to be. “I never had any interest in cricket until I found out I was good at it and that you can travel the world playing this game,” says Shakib. “At the age of 15 to 16 I got selected in three representative age-group teams. I was touring countries and thought this wasn’t too bad considering I hadn’t held a proper cricket ball until I was 14.”

His lack of interest in cricket can probably be explained by his family upbringing. “Football runs in the family,” he says. “My dad was a well-known footballer in our district and a cousin, who I looked up to and idolised, was a prolific striker for a top club and was a Bangladesh international. I was hooked on football. Cricket was a less serious pastime and was limited to some village knockabouts with a taped tennis ball. To become an international cricketer from where I come from it requires luck and a mini-miracle.”
