My understanding on the upcoming 29 dec election-2008 and the 1/11 govt

Rumi, December 27, 2008

Well, I’m not a political preacher or an awared citizen, but I’m a frustrated and optimistic in parallel about this country! Anyways, almost 2 years back on Jan-11, which is vastly known as 1/11 when a strange patterned government took the steer the country- everybody thought it’s THE CHANGE.

I too thought the Fakhruddin govt will become a Mahathir govt like Malaysia… their activities were like that! They started their movement by demolishing illegeal structures to me as “RUPOK”, acted as a sweeper to clean up old rubbishes and started imprisoning of those bad politicians! So everything was getting well- seems like a new change has taken a place with good intentions! Alas! after running few months, they kinda faced a different but real kind of trouble.

To me they failed-

  • to read the attitude and behavioral patterns of the business groups. The result was too bad. People stop investing, liquid transactions in the market came to a dead hault. Ask why? Let’s go to next point where it’s answer lie
  • to focus revenue making stream! Instead of encouraging people to be more participative in the societal activities they’re pulling legs of common people and business groups to broaden the Tax base!! This was absolutely ridiculous. This happened probably Mr. Fakhruddin was a former governor of the central bank of the country. He knew and understood the statistics of country economics- but I guess he missed a great fact of judging of peoples psychology! Did he forget- tax evation is in human and it happens in every country of the world! Didn’t Saifur Rahman initiated VAT even all odds but hitting less impact on people? Doesn’t even a beggar pays taxes through VAT by buying a ‘biri’ to smoke? The NBR shouldn’t be operated in that way!!!

Everything seems to be falling apart since then. People were getting impatient and unhappy due to daily increments of foods and cosumable items! I myself was fed up of higher expenses on every single places due to collapse in the chain! I don’t know when people of this country will understand that instead of being selfish- supporting and joint collaboration will gain a lot- “Doshe Mili Kori Kaj- Hari Jiti Nahi Laj”- when will this be happening? Can anybody tell? I know I can’t expect too much at such crisis time- our country got liberated for 38 years back. A country like USA got liberated more than 200 years back. So, they can be more matured than us because they have gone throguh stages like we are going through it now!! I believe if anyone reads American history- one will find that the early independent country (like 50 years) had so many killings, political unstability, brutality, mob, mafia- so many evils were there !!!! We are even better than they did in the past!

Anyways, at the eve of this transitionary govt., people got pissed off by seeing those notorious people getting out of jails and even worse- most of them got nominated by their devoted political parties and awarded I guess to become political candidates!!! This is really disappointing and frustrating too! However, I believe there are things to get optimist too with this govt- all of a sudden I realized, sensed and figured out 3 basic good facts of this govt-

  • Before 1/11 occured there was no good chance of a fair election- Awami league got so angry on BNP that there was not a single hope that a fair election might take place. 1/11 cooled down the biggest quarrels between these two parties. The consequence was peoples suffereing.
  • Plenty of bad (or should I say evil infected) politicians and their associates were imprisoned. Though at the end of the staged show- showed their cunnigness by bailed out and stood as election candidates! This is apparantly true!!!! But behind this fact I guess the govt wanted to send a message to the people- NOW YOU KNOW WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE AND WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. NOW YOU DECIDE NOT TO CHOOSE THEM. EITHER CHOOSE ALTERNATE CANDIDATE OR SAY NO“. So they arranged to say a NO. Shouldn’t people execute this? Only time will tell…

But I have a big question in mind- how many people will understand this meesage?

  • No one even Awami League could follow up their demands an its fruit! Yes, they demanded a structured and actual counts on voter list- and they got even better- National ID Card!!! Hasn’t anybody noticed that more than a crore of fake voters’ names were disappeared through this process? Hasn’t manipulaiton on this is lessened a little bit or even a lot?
