Change Windows Time on Windows 2019 Rumi, October 31, 2026 I found this pretty weirdly that windows has a different policy on updating the system time, like if you select from taskbar to change date time, you’ll probably be ending up with a grayed change button of updating your time which was set arbitrarily during installation. So here’s got the solution to it- Because the time keeps reverting after a short period, the server is automatically syncing with a designated time source (like an Active Directory Domain Controller or an external NTP server). Additionally, time is a legacy CMD command, which is why it failed in PowerShell. 1. The PowerShell Syntax Fix To change the time via PowerShell, you must use the native PowerShell cmdlet instead of the CMD command: Set-Date -Date "10/30/2026 20:55:00" 2. Stop the Time Reverting (Check Domain / NTP Sync) Since the time reverted on its own, a system service is overriding your manual changes. If the server is in a Domain: Domain-joined machines automatically force sync their time with the Domain Controller. You must change the time on the Primary Domain Controller (PDC) emulator, not this local server. To check the current time source, Open PowerShell as Administrator, Run: w32tm /query /source To manually break the sync and point to a specific public NTP server: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:"pool.ntp.org,0x8" /syncfromflags:manual /update w32tm /resync And right after it, you might see the following error- PS C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mangoca> w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:"pool.ntp.org,0x8" /syncfromflags:manual /updateThe command completed successfully.PS C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mangoca> w32tm /resyncSending resync command to local computerThe computer did not resync because no time data was available.PS C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mangoca> w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:"bsti1.time.gov.bd" /syncfromflags:manual /updateThe command completed successfully.PS C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mangoca> w32tm /resyncSending resync command to local computerThe computer did not resync because no time data was available.PS C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mangoca> It’s ok! your time is actually updated.
